[영어 원서책] 한달동안 원더(Wonder) 원서 읽기 - 23일차(p226 ~ p235)

오늘은 원더 23일차 - “어거스트”의 이야기가 계속됩니다~ ^^

“데이지” 가 하늘 나라로 떠나면서 가족의 소중함을 다시금 확인하게 된 계기가 되었는데요~ 누나의 연극에 초대받으며 자연스럽게 화해하게 되어 너무 다행이예요~  😌😚😘🥰

『원더(Wonder) 원서 읽기』 - 23일차 p226 ~ p235

▷ Via brought home three tickets to her school play a few days after Daisy died. We never mentioned the fight we had over dinner again. On the night of the play, right before she and Justin were leaving to get to their school early, she gave me a big hug and told me she loved me and she was proud to be my sister.

비아는 데이지가 죽은 며칠 후 학교 연극표 3장을 집으로 가져왔다. 우리는 그날 저녁의 싸움에 대해 다시는 언급하지 않았다. 연극이 있던 날 밤, 누나와 저스틴이 학교에 일찍 가기 위해 떠나기 직전, 누나는 나를 꼭 껴안고 사랑한다고 말했고, 내 누나라는 것이 자랑스럽다고 말했다.

▷ I knew right then and there that I was going to like the play.

It wasn’t like other school plays I’ve been to, like The Wizard of Oz or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

No, this was grown-up seeming, and I felt smart sitting there watching it.

나는 그때 바로 이 연극이 마음에 들 것이라는 것을 알았다.

오즈의 마법사나 하늘에서 음식이 내린다면 같은 다른 학교 연극들과는 달랐다.

아니, 이건 어른에게 맞는 것 같았지만, 그렇게 앉아서 연극을 보고있으니 똑똑해진 기분이 들었다.

▷ A little later in the play, a character named Mrs. Webb calls out for her daughter, Emily. I knew from the program that that was the part Miranda was playing, so I leaned forward to get a better look at her.

“That’s Miranda,” Mom whispered to me, squinting at the stage when Emily walked out.

“She looks so different…”

“It’s not Miranda,” I whispered. “It’s Via.”

“Oh, my God!” said Mom, lurching forward in her seat.

“Shh!” said Dad.

“It’s Via,” Mom whispered to him.

“I know,” whispered Dad, smiling. “Shhh!”

연극에서 잠시 뒤, 웹 부인이라는 등장인물이 나와서 자신의 딸 에밀리를 부른다. 그녀의 딸 에밀리를 부른다. 팸플릿을 통해 미란다가 연기하고 있는 부분이 바로 그 부분이라는 것을 알았기 때문에 나는 더 잘 보려고 몸을 앞으로 숙였다.

“미란다야.”에밀리가 걸어나왔을 때 엄마가 눈을 가늘게 뜨고 나에게 속삭였다.

“누나가 너무 달라 보여…”

“미란다 누나 아냐” 라고 나는 속삭였다. “비아 누나야.”

“세상에!” 엄마가 자리에서 몸을 앞으로 휘청거리며 말했다.

“쉿!” 아빠가 말했다.

“비아야.” 엄마가 아빠에게 속삭였다.

“알아,” 아빠가 방긋 웃으며 속삭였다. “쉿!”

▷ So I got up and clapped and clapped. I clapped until my hands hurt. For a second, I imagined how cool it would be to be Via and Justin right then, having all these people standing up and cheering for them. I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.

나는 일어나서 박수를 치고 또 쳤다. 손이 아플 때까지 박수를 쳤다. 잠시, 나는 이 많은 사람들이 일어서서 환호를 하고 있는, 바로 그때 비아와 저스틴이 얼마나 멋질지 상상했다. 세상 모든 사람이 일생에 한 번쯤은 기립박수를 받아야 한다는 규칙이 있어야 한다고 생각한다.

▷ Via was about to say something to me, but then someone else came over and started talking to her, and before I knew it, I was kind of alone in the crowd. I mean, I knew where Mom and Dad were, but there were so many people all around us, and people kept bumping into me, spinning me around a bit, giving me that one-two look, which made me feel kind of bad.

I don’t know if it was because I was feeling hot or something, but I kind of started getting dizzy. People’s faces were blurring in my head. And their voices were so loud it was almost hurting my ears. I tried to turn the volume down on my Lobot ears, but I got confused and turned them louder at first, which kind of shocked me. And then I looked up and I didn’t see Mom or Dad or Via anywhere.

비아가 내게 무슨 말을 하려다가 다른 사람이 와서 말을 걸기 시작하더니, 어느새, 나는 사람들 틈에서 혼자 있었다. 엄마 아빠가 어디 계신지는 알고 있었지만, 우리 주변에 사람이 너무 많아서 사람들이 계속 부딪치고, 내가 빙빙 돌아가면서, 흘깃흘깃 쳐다보는 시선에 기분이 좀 안 좋았다. 더워서였는지 모르겠지만, 좀 어지러워지기 시작했다. 사람들의 얼굴이 머릿속에서 흐려지고 있었다. 그리고 사람들의 목소리는 너무 커서 내 귀를 거의 아플 지경이었다. 로봇 귀의 볼륨을 낮추려고 했지만, 처음에 헷갈려서 더 크게 틀어서 깜짝 놀랐다. 그런다음 고개를 들어 보니 엄마 아빠와 비아가 어디에도 보이지 않았다.

▷ “Via?” I yelled out.

I started pushing through the crowd to find Mom.

“Mommy!” I really couldn’t see anything but people’s stomachs and ties all around me. “Mommy!”

Suddenly someone picked me up from behind.

“Look who’s here!” said a familiar voice, hugging me tight.

I thought it was Via at first, but when I turned around, I was completely surprised.

“Hey, Major Tom!” she said.

“Miranda!” I answered, and I gave her the tightest hug I could give.

“비아 누나야?” 라고 나는 소리쳤다.

나는 엄마를 찾기 위해 사람들 사이를 헤집기 시작했다.

“엄마!” 정말 주위에는 사람들의 배와 넥타이 외에는 아무것도 보이지 않았다. “엄마!”

갑자기 누군가가 뒤에서 나를 잡아끌어냈다.

“세상에,이게 누구야!” 낯익은 목소리가 나를 꼭 껴안으며 말했다.

처음에는 비아 누나인 줄 알았는데 돌아보니, 완전히 놀랐다.

“이봐, 톰 소령!” 미란다가 말했다.

“미란다!” 나는 대답했고, 미란다 누나를 있는 힘껏 끌어안았다.

“어기”에게 “미란다”는 정말 특별한 것 같죠?!!! 

어렸을때부터 누나의 친구들이 다 무서워하고 꺼려할 때, “미란다”는 거리낌없이 함께 놀아주고, 친동생처럼 대해줬으니깐요~ 정말 두려운 순간에 “미란다”가 나타나줘서 얼마나 반가웠을까요~ 😢😭😭😚
